Mold Remediation in Commercial Buildings

Concern about indoor exposure to mold has been increasing as the public becomes aware that exposure to mold can cause a variety of health effects and symptoms, including an allergic response known as Building Induced Asthma. Molds can be found almost anywhere; they can grow on many organic materials such as drywall, carpet and fiberglass insulation.  Moisture is the key condition that results in mold growth.

Due to the potential for serious health issues, mold growth should be remediated as soon as it is discovered.  All of the industry standards conclude that active mold growth should not be tolerated in an occupied building.

The first step in the mold remediation process is the determination of cause and extent of the mold.  The cause must be identified, since the mold will only return if the underlying moisture problem is not resolved.  We have provided this cause and origin service for almost 20 years.

The extent of the mold growth must be determined to ensure that the remediation effort is successful in removing all mold.  Our initial mold assessment includes a recommended scope of work that specifies the required work.  Our experience allows us to provide a defensible scope.

One of the realities of commercial buildings is that they must stay open for business.  When there are occupants going about their normal business, it is critical that the remediation work area be securely contained and depressurized.  This is readily achieved with the competent use of established containment systems and the use of high efficiency air filtration devices.  The devices must move air out of the work area to the outside of the building to ensure proper negative pressure.  All vacuum and exhaust equipment is equipped with high efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filters.  This containment procedure has been standard for decades.

With our background in the mold remediation and asbestos abatement industries,
AIR Consulting Services
